a restoration project is in order...
got this from my dad via email this morning. i'm not sure if it originated with him or not, but the words were of too high a caliber not to pass along...
A few weeks ago I read a joke ... It said all the politicians running for president are promising change to the American people ... We send them billions and billions of tax dollars and they send us the change. Funny? Not really; there is too much truth in it to be funny.
That got me to thinking...... They all promise change. How about if they run on a promise of restoration rather than change. A restoration that would take us back in time to a place where things ran better, smoother and life was more enjoyable. Change? That, in truth, is what they have been giving us all along.
We used to have a strong dollar ........ Politicians changed that.
Life used to be sacred ........ Politicians changed that.
We used to be respected around the world ....... Politicians changed that.
We used to have a strong manufacturing economy ........ Politicians changed that.
We used to have lower tax structures ....... Politicians changed that.
We used to enjoy more freedoms ........ Politicians changed that.
We used to be a large exporter of American made goods ....... Politicians changed that.
We used to be an openly Christian nation ....... Politicians changed that.
We used to teach patriotism in schools ....... Politicians changed that.
We used to educate children in schools ....... Politicians changed that.
We used to enjoy freedom of speech ........ Politicians changed that.
We used to have affordable food and gas prices ........ Politicians changed that, too.
....and one could go on and on with this list. What hasn't been changed, politicians are promising to change that as well if you will elect them.
When, oh when, is America going to sit back with open eyes and look at what we once were
and where we have come and say, 'Enough is enough.'?
The trouble is, America's youthful voters today don't know of the great America that existed forty and fifty years ago. They see the world as if it has always existed as it is now.
When will we wake up? Tomorrow may be too late. When will America realize ...... Politicians are what is wrong with America?
as we approach the 4th of july holiday celebrating the birth of our great nation, i can't help but contemplate how disappointed our founding fathers would be in the current state of our once great republic. what do you think?
"When will we wake up? Tomorrow may be too late. "
Sadly, when I read these words, my father's voice echoed in my ears...
"Tomorrow never comes..."

Young people want to fit in, now days. Our schools have failed to teach about the uniqueness of the American constitution. Liberals and progressives have convinced people that America isn't special. I have even read some of them trying to make the case that there are more freedoms in Europe. Even our Supreme Court is looking to Europe rather than the constitution for guidance. That's a shame.
The truth is, the American constitution is the greatest political document ever produced by the mind of man. It stands alone and has done so since it was written. That's what I teach my children and I show them specific examples. I don't want them to take our constitution for granted. It is special. America is unique. America is still the shining city on a hill.
The "change" being promised this election year is really more of the same old failed policies with bigger budgets and higher taxes and more government control over our lives. No thanks. I like the idea of restoration better.

I love this post, Heidianne … but then, you always do great work. And yes, it is true. Politicians gave us change – but not without convincing us, over many years, that change is preferred to restoration. But here’s my take: it isn’t the fault of politicians. They’ve always been snakes and we have always known that; and nothing they do should surprise us. No, the fault is that “the people” have relinquished their awesome responsibility to politicians. Imagine putting your baby into the care of a 6-year-old babysitter … but that’s what we’ve done with our country. There is hope for the future – starting with my hope that the people will remind politicians that this is OUR country, not theirs.
Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

WONDERFUL piece, Heidianne and just the weekend for it.
Mustang's right......politicians have always been this bad; we just never put up with quite so much before without a whimper..and in the MOST dangerous times of our history, in my humble opinion.
A really amazing thing, I think, is mustang's analogy of putting a baby in a 6 yr old's hands. In essence, most of America's children ARE being raised by someone else..a nanny, preschool, some kind of daycare. THAT is a problem we have to address. Kids need to hear about our country from their moms..they need to feel safe, they need to have strong enough characters to fight the politicians if necessary!?
And THEN........THE TEACHERS. But, will we? NO, the left has made it too politically correct to do much anymore. Therein lies the biggest problem.
thanks..GREAT post. Z

I often wonder how we had such brilliance in politics over two hundred years ago yet it doesn't seem to exist in politics today. How could our founding fathers create something as incredibly ingenious as the Constitution yet our politicians today can't seem to balance a budget?
I am sick of career politicians. Once they're in, they're in for life. A lifetime of serving themselves and their best interests. Are there good folks serving? Sure. But it's never the majority. And they are hardly the kind of people I consider real leaders.
Most of the delegates at the first Constitutional Convention were leaders in their communities and in their respective states. Nearly all of them served in some capacity in the Revolutionary War, half in the Continental Army, most of those who served were in positions of command.
One might ask "does military service necessarily make a person fit for President?"
Yes, with a caveat...one who has served his or her country honorably and showed exemplary leadership skills combined with other characteristics like honesty, integrity, and morality, and a whole host of other values do make a person a great leader. Our founding fathers weren't perfect, God knows they had their faults, but they were LEADERS, they were respectable, educated men. Today we have educated men, but respectable? Hardly. Ask yourself how many have served?
Over 75% of our Congress has NOT served.
No, not serving doesn't mean one isn't fit for office, but one has to ask oneself if military service doesn't lend something to one's service in Congress or the White House?
Oh but who am I to make such comments?
I'm a 38 year old woman, generation X I think they call us, the daughter of baby boomers, the granddaughter of the greatest generation, the great granddaughter of Italian, Sicilian and Romanian immigrants. I'm a registered independent who voted for Clinton twice and Bush twice, I'm a veteran, I vote, I blog about life and injustice, I donate to charities, I am kind to people and animals, I try and protect the environment, I care about the state of the economy, I own a Roth IRA, I try to have an emergency savings, I pay my bills on time, I write letters to the editor, I support freedom, I own a gun for protection, I abide by the law, I work full time, I am working on my education, I pay taxes, I do the best I can in life, and I do what I can to try and make society a better place.
I'm your average American just like many of you.
Yet it seems no matter what I do or how hard I work, some politician tries to one-up me and millions of my fellow Americans like me by throwing obstacles in our way to make life just a tad bit more difficult.
I'm just sick of it but what's worse is I just don't know what "I" can do about it. I don't give up but sometimes I want to. My husband is cynical, he distrusts everyone, it's sad--I try and remind him that people as a whole are good and decent, it's the governments which are corrupt. I try to hold on to my faith in mankind, in our Constitution, in the ideals our founding fathers believed, I believe America can last, but it requires a great sacrifice from us. I just don't know how to go about doing it.
I am suspicious of a person who constantly talks about change yet gives no explanations on what kind of change or how they plan to achieve such change. Change is not necessarily a good thing, in fact the wrong kind of change can make things much worse than they are right now.
Thanks for letting me rant Heidi.

"Change" is the big buzzword that all the nouveau politicians are using. It goes like this. The incumbent government begins to have problems. There's things like 'internal strife' or the economy looks bad or some other huge woe and then all the upcoming rival party has to say is one word, "Change" and the people like automatons bite the bait. It's up to we bloggers to point out the fallacies of that. Let's hope people are listening. (Australians are beginning to regret the 'change' they voted in last year but it's too late now).

bgp
what do you think?
The politicians have the advantage. They make the laws and we pay the bills. We don't have the luxury to sit around and figure out how to line our pockets, they do. We spend all our time trying to get by , maintain, make a living. They spend their time trying to figure out how to take ours. THAT prevents us from being on the offensive!...aint got time.
Nice system.

If you think you can change this Nations Government at the ballot box, I believe you are sadly mistaken. We didn't get where we are now because of one party. It will take a new revolution to restore America as stated in the Declaration of Indenpendence. This government is firmly entrench and has a plan in place for it's survival; no matter what the cost to the American people. We are just cannon fodder.
