Character is rooted in all the other critical components of an individual. It counts when you choose a friend, a business associate or partner, a confidant, or a leader.

The President is our HIGHEST leader. To suggest that his character doesn't count is the most illogical premise possible. There are certainly other things that do count... and they all will hinge and be reflected in his character.

One helluva post, Heidianne... albeit normal for you.

Character is important for another reason , heidi. when we elect a president we, the people, are automatically declaring that he has the highest of "security clearances". he will have access to any and every top secret that this country has. so, when we elect someone to the highest office in the country, by election, we are declaring our trust in the man in regards to those top secrets.

Uncle Joe

What a sad state of affairs we have in the U.S. We actually have a political party that has to argue that character doesn't matter simply because their candidate doesn't have any. The very argument is an admission of the fact that he doesn't.

Funny, but now Truman is viewed as a very good president and he was very fiscally conservative to boot.

Otto - American Interests

Ones character is a vast concept of persona but in the context of the subject matter, that is, one individual so named Barack Obama I understand where you are coming from.

Experience verses change. Obama constantly pushes the line that a vote for McCain would fundamentally mean another four Bush like years. Let me cite but one foreign policy example, I refer to Iran. Paradoxically, an Obama victory may well hasten an encounter as Tehran tests his resolve, just as Khrushchev tested of the young JFK. Pacifism one asks? The Dems and Obama’s anti war rhetoric is all to do with politics.

As I commented elsewhere, ‘not all is lost, if he does get up as the polls seem to suggest, I cannot think of anyone with a greater propensity to self-destruct ahead of time. The pointer lays within that that ‘impossible rhetoric’ of his.’

Thanks Heidi!

Great post.

A man has his character and his word. Without either he is useless.

Jen

Every word. I could not agree more! I just cannot beleive that intelligent Americans can't see through this man! The ULTIMATE politician!

And the media! Why do I have to listen to countless reports about the cost of Sarah Palin's wardrobe and NO ONE is talking about this man's aunt (which he says he does not know...even though she has contributed to his campaign?!?) who is an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT! She ignored the order to deport and on top of everything...she is living in public housing that you and I pay for!

The cherry on top? The feds are not investigating this woman...but are investigating who leaked it!

Read about it here:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081101/ap_on_el_pr/obama_aunt

and here:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081102/ap_on_el_pr/obama_aunt

How has he gotten away with all this? How is he duping so many people? I don't think I will ever understand this season.

I am voting based on character...and trust. My argument: Who are our enemies rooting for?

I cannot cast my vote for the same person they would. Period.
